Another day, another cookie order. Have you tried to make something cute lately, and somehow it all goes wrong? Well, don’t worry. These are- you guessed it!- easy! You can even use an old Christmas cookie cutter you probably have in the back of a drawer already- the Christmas angel! They might look a little complicated, but trust me, they are so much simpler than they seem.
You know the beat up old cookie cutter I’m talking about, right? This one.
We’ve all got this one, and we all never use it. Honestly, I have yet to make an angel that looks halfway decent myself. If I do ever succeed, I will be sure to write something about it! But who knew that if you turn it upside down, it’s the perfect canvas for a good, old fashioned reindeer?
1. Start by cutting and bakingĀ your sugar cookies. Find my favorite recipe here!
2. After they cool fully, turn those angels upside down! Now you have a reindeer head! If you’re not very confident, grab a food grade marker and draw your antlers, or else, use a #2 tip and brown royal icing to draw antlers with three curly points each. You’ll want to try and have them mirror each other, because symmetry looks nice on this sort of cookie.
3. Next, draw in your ears and basic head shape. The head will take on a peanut shape and the ears are almost like two flower petals. Flood the ears and head and allow the icing to dry for at least an hour.
4. Using a light pink royal icing mixed to a flooding consistency, fill in the undersides of the ears.
5. Next, Use white icing to make two ovals standing on end for eyes, and a very wide triangle in red for a nose. Go back in with your white icing and draw a line in the wet red nose icing to make the nose look “shiny”.
6. Once your eyes have had a bit of time to dry, use a firmer black icing to pipe two pupils onto the eyes, and draw a happy little smile below the reindeer nose.
7. Admire your work! It really wasn’t that hard, was it? If you have any comments or questions, let me know!
Love This! You make it look easy!
